Well fans, I don't know what to tell you all. I wish I had better news, but I don't and the ratings fell once again this week to an all time low of 7.83 Million viewers. Heroes returned after a week off because of the election with Episode 3x08 Villains a flashback episode that provided us with more of The Petrelli family history.
Last week, NBC let two popular writers of the show Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb go and perhaps they were hoping for some fans maybe to come back, but it seems like it had no affect and actually less fans tuned in. Of course the change if ANY with the firings will not be seen until Volume 4, because when the writers were fired, production was already completed on the final episodes of Volume 3.
As a fan this disappoints me, because I know at the end of the day, with a high production budget the show is getting very close to the point where the numbers will not match up. Heroes is not going any where this season, but could this be the beginning of the end!?
No matter how much I hate to say this, the answer is yes. As a fan we can not ignore what is happening and just say things like "No way this shows rocks!!"
Over the last several weeks, I have seen more and more negative comments from fans online and if the online fans make up a majority of the "hardcore" base, then how can we expect a casual fan to stay interested!?
Yes I know, there are the DVR numbers and the fans that watch online or download the show and yes those numbers provide the show with the biggest gain than any other show, but they do not translate to revenue the way traditional advertising does.
Ad revenue is usually based on a combination of a show's prior season's ratings or the potential ratings in an upcoming season. So if this trend were to continue that means a much smaller budget for the show.
However, the production costs for a show like Heroes are much higher than a traditional show and with an ensemble cast that will demand even more money next season, things will be even tighter.
So what is my point!? All I am trying to say is things do not look good and that fans can not ignore it. If they truly love the show then they need to be patient, enjoy the show and not critique every little detail, stop downloading or at least START watching it on NBC again, and go out and promote the show to all your friends and tell them to watch it!!
To the fans that are upset with the direction of the show, no I am not ignoring you. Yes I agree there are definitely some problems with the show, but they can NOT be fixed over night. I have voiced my fair share of criticisms of the show in various forums. However, they have already made the next 7-8 episodes of the season and well it takes time for things to change.
The next 3-4 episodes seem pretty good and it seems like they will finally tie in all of the various story lines together. I hope things change, because if they do not, a once great show will be history.
So go out and tell your friends to tune in!!
Thanks to TVbyNumbers for the ratings.

Just like you said, I think people need to be patient. It is watching a movie. Everything has to unfold. Unlike a movie that only has 2 hours to tell the story, Heroes has months to let the story unfold.
Flashback episode was really helpful to tights all the dots together.
The show hasn't been on but 2 months. So be patient!
The show is good as it is. (It's definitely better than Chuck, CSI, Prison Break etc.) People really need to back off and wait to see how everything will turn out.
I'd love to watch the show on NBC, especially if it would improve the shows ratings. The problem is though, their website won't let me watch it or any of their other videos for that matter. I live in Ireland and am not prepared to wait the additional 2 weeks for the most recent show to be aired on BBC2. It's too much torment so I always end up watching on some other non-NBC website and don't bother watching it when it eventually comes out on TV. I think if HEROES is being promoted as global show in countries other than the US they should really align them to air the show at the same time/day to be able register all of the public interest that the show generates. Fans of the show shouldn't be discriminated by 2 weeks and have reduced access to content on the website just because they don't reside in the US. They're bound to lose ratings if they continue this practice.
I think HEROES is a brilliant show and I really want it to continue on into the future. However if this is to happen fans really need to stop complaining so much, sit down, and just enjoy the show. Season 2 was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I actually thought it was really good. Sure it had some flaws, e.g. Caitlin being stranded in the future, but these were more than likely a result of Season 2's sudden/untimely end therefore making it not possible to resolve these lose ends in time before the final episode. You have to have a little patience. I rather enjoyed Season 2's suspense from episode to episode as we gradually unraveled the events leading up to and resulting in the present time "Four Months Later". It was like Sylar's insatiable hunger and kept me coming back for more.
So I say, "Keep up the great work HEROES! You're doing a great job and look forward to the rest this season and multiple future seasons too!"
:-D
Being patient won't do anything. This is the type of show where if you don't watch, you're confused... So, I think the ratings dropping will stay low, for this season at least. Maybe if Heroes proves itself, next season the ratings will be up (if there is a next season!!!) The ratings are too low. Scary low. Well not scary low, but isn't NBC the station that as soon as a show busts it's off (or is that CBS..)?? I dunno, I just think at most at the rate the show is going, we have this season and maybe next.
I'm a hardcore fan of this show, and I think it would be devestating if it got canceled. In my opinion this is the greatest show since Charmed (not includeing the last season).
I live in Sweden witch means that we are far far far behind (season two just finished here), so I'm one of those who downloads the show. And it's not because I want to, but because I have to to stay updated. I love the show. Sure, there are a lot of things that I would like for the writers to change. But hey, they know where they're going with it and I have confidence in them. I mean, they made a perfect season one. Sure they wanted to much with season two and shoot themselfs in the foot on one to many things (like Caitlin, hate that b***h), but I think it turned out great anyway. And now they have huge plans for this season, and I think that they will succeed.
The thing I find most interesting in this season is Peters transformation from the naïve dreamer who wants to save the world to the complicated, bitter and cynical villian/terrorist who wants to save the world.
I hope that everyone gives this show a second chance, cause it deserves it. It's the greatest show in many years and it should stay on the air for many years to come.
Peace out brothers and sisters
Just saw yahoo, we should be afraid. A show that had only 3 million views less than Heroes was recently canceled. Meaning, Heroes' fate is looking grim if it loses a significant amount of viewers again.
I can tell you that I don't watch _any_ show live on television. I'm never home when the shows air live, and since I'm a fan of both Heroes and 24, they conflict at the same time, so even if I did watch on actual television, I'd have to pick one. Granted, the business model is unforgiving for TV shows that get viewed on media other than live airing on actual television, but I think the audience that a show like Heroes appeals to is an audience that doesn't follow the traditional business models anymore, and if networks and studios could realize that an innovate, they could be very successful in creating quality entertainment.
As for the direction of the show, I'm very pleased with it. I love the intrigue, and I love how you're constantly guessing which side you're going to find characters on.
In a recent conference this is what Tim Kring had to say about Caitlin:
“There’s a few people out there who might be asking what happened to her, but for the majority of people, it would feel like a hard left turn. If Season Two had been completed as planned, Caitlin’s fate would have been revealed in the fifteenth episode of the year. Now she is a “casualty of an act of God.”
No one is watching Heroes and that's not going to change.
we should all turn our eyes to the lawsuit that is now in a nyc appellate court against NBC and tim kring.
this lawsuit is where the real hit ratings for NBC lies.
All those who don't want to watch the show on BBC2 your wrong- the episodes air only a week after they have in america and if you watch next weeks episode on BBC 3 then you are basically as up-to-date as the US. And TBH if you like the show enough to be that impatient about watching it you must like it enought to want to keep it on air. And it's better to watch it in good quality that on a crummy little screen where it stops and starts.
PS The show is awesome, stop knocking it cause most people couldn't create a great show like that !!!
I think if Heroes was Tuesday it might be better. A lot of my initial Heroes watching buddies have fallen out mainly due to the Monday night timing of other shows they want to watch, and Tivo can only do so much...
